TERRA NUSA is a grassroots initiative committed to protecting Indonesia’s rich biodiversity by centering the people who have safeguarded it for generations: indigenous communities—and especially, indigenous women.
We believe in a decolonial approach to conservation. That means shifting away from top-down environmental programs often funded by industries that harm the planet, and instead putting local voices, traditional knowledge, and frontline realities at the heart of every action.
We are just beginning. But we believe the path to real, lasting change starts with respect, solidarity, and listening to those closest to the land.
Based in France and founded by an Indonesian whose passion for the environment and travel led her to volunteer in the forests of Borneo and the Amazon, TERRA NUSA was born from a simple yet urgent question:
What if we stopped speaking for nature—and started listening to those who already do?
